It's spring break, and today I went to the Erie Zoo to draw the animals. They were pretty much all adorable babies, even the grown ups.
Picture
A freakin' lion! African lion. They weren't happy to see me at first, but I promise they learned to love me.
Picture
This big baby girl was rollin around and I wanted to rub her fluffy tummy.
Picture
I I don't know if you know this, but black-and-white ruffed lemurs are scary. From a distance they looked innocent, but then I got closer and realized that they look horrified. Then they started SCREECHING.
Picture
I did a better job of capturing the freakishness of lemurs on this page, where a couple of the little Gollums are arranged among a sleeping sand cat and a tentacled snake.
Picture
Meerkats. Diggin' and sittin'. There were only two of them in the exhibit, which must be weird for them. And some ducks--Hottentot teals!
Picture
The mischievous tentacled snake again, smiling at me! He thinks I don't know he's a living thing, so he is proud of himself. Also this fatty called a rock hyrax who definitely hated me.
Picture
An amur leopard, chilling. And another African lion, right up against the glass.
Picture
At the Asia exhibit I saw a red panda all curled up asleep. The orangutans did not like me at all. Every time I began drawing the mother, she would move. I know staring is bad etiquette in their culture, but I had to try. The dad was lazy enough that I managed to draw him, though :)
The zoo was magical! I will make sure to go back a few times before the end of spring break!
